If you have used Google’s Chrome browser for any length of time you undoubtedly have found the annoying “feature” that will close all browser tabs if you happen to close the browser in error. Other browsers will usually display a dialog message indicating that you have tabs open and do you really want to close. Not true for the Chrome browser. I have on many occasions closed in error and have had redo forms, try to relocate the pages I was viewing, re-search, etc..
There is a solution…actually there are a couple of them.
First solution – Re-open a closed TAB. There is a feature in Chrome that allows you to press the Ctrl+Shift+T to reopen a closed tab. Each time you perform the keystroke it will open the tab previous to the last one until you have all of the tabs open that you want or need. For a long time this was the only solution I knew of and while it isn’t perfect it at least was able to help me recover.
Solution number 2 will make Chrome behave like the other browser and produce a popup message letting you know you have multiple tabs open and do you really want to close the browser. This feature should be part of the Chrome core but since it isn’t you can add a Chrome extensions that will do it for you. Nice thing is this is a Google created extension and extremely simple to install. From inside of Chrome go to the Chome Toolbox Extension page. You will see an image like the following:

Click on the install button which will then produce a confirmation message asking if you really want to install it. When you answer yes it downloads and installs into your Chrome Browser. You will see the gear/flame icon in the upper right corner of your browser, clicking it will allow you to access the functionality and to set the options. By default the feature that produces the popup if you try to close the browser with mutiple tabs open is enabled.
Hope that helps… You might also check out some of the other features of the Toolbox, let me know if you find others as useful.
